Burmese Cats - Reproduction

Most Burmese cats breed readily. Burmese females (or queens) start calling as early as four months and less. The average litter is 4-6 kittens. Sometimes 8 and even 12 kittens occur. Burmese queens are good mothers and have little problems with the youth. The kittens are born with downy pale coats and loose body heat rapidly; it can lead to pneumonia. So their box should be placed in warm, draft free environment. In large litters the strongest kittens will push the smallest aside, and care must be taken to ensure that each one has sufficient nourishment from the queen. Kittens are ready to go to their new homes at 12 weeks of age after being wholly weaned and inoculated against Feline Rhinotracheitis, Calici, and Panleucopenia. Burmese kittens are extremely playful and retain this feature for all of their life.

Burmese Cats - Feeding

All cats cannot survive as vegetarians. Protein is essential for kittens to develop without problems. But meat is deficient in vitamins and minerals. To meet the calcium requirements a kitten would have to drink a pint of milk daily, but milk in excess leads to diarrhea in small kittens. So it's easier to use calcium powder daily. Milk should be just a treat for adult cats. Elderly Burmese cats require low protein diet.

Plan the cat's diet so that meat is no more than two-thirds of the food. Never overfeed the Burmese Cat with raw or tinned fish. It's good in small amounts, but can lead to vitamin deficiency and weakness. Egg white should be cooked; raw egg yolk is ok. It's a good idea to occasionally feed Burmese Cats with porridge, semolina, bread, pasta, rice, and cooked vegetables, mixed with meat or fish.
